Taster Session: Jam Jar Tea-Light Holders

A big thank you to everyone who came to our first workshop of the year tonight, where we made jam jar tea-light holders! So many more people than expected turned up, so the first ten minutes were rather hectic as extra chairs had to be found!

Once everything had settled down though, people soon got stuck into painting the jars they'd brought along, which could be filled with a tea-light when finished to produce a lovely colourful light!

Here's an idea of how busy it was! 62 people in total turned up

Some of our new members concentrating on their designs

Here you can see Karl, one of our only male members! If there are any guys reading, please feel free to come along to a workshop - remember, crafting is not just for girls!

More new members working on their jar designs

It was so busy that we had to use any flat surface we could find as a makeshift table!

A big thank you to these guys - the Bangor Craft and Sewing Society committee - for putting such effort into making tonight a success

We hope you enjoyed the first meeting! Our next workshop will be held on Tuesday 6th October at 7pm in the Student Union, where we will be making dreamcatchers! Please do come along, and feel free to ask if you need help finding the building or have any other questions.

In the meantime, you can keep up with our news via the Facebook page (link in the top navigation bar), or keep an eye out on the blog for an upcoming tutorial on how to make your own jam jar tea-light holder for anyone who missed the session tonight.

Thank you all so much for coming, have a great week and we'll see you next Tuesday!

Serendipity

Hello everyone, and welcome to all our new members who signed up to the society over the last two days!

Serendipity is officially over for another year, but as per usual it was hectic, loud, crowded and very exciting! It was great to see so much enthusiasm for the Craft and Sewing Society, with over 150 people joining.

Medi Williams, Chairperson and Emma Newman, Fundraising Executive on our stall

Leaflets we handed out to passing Freshers, along with some crocheted flower hair clips that were made as freebies specially for the occasion!

We chose to display one of our society sewing machines as part of our stand, as well as the hoodies we ordered last year! You can also see the keyrings we gave away to Freshers who signed up to the society.

Here you can see the crowd! There were so many people of all kinds - Freshers, 2nd and 3rd years, Postgraduates and Staff - all there to check out the societies on offer!

Another two of our helpers - Ally Fraser, Social Secretary and Beth Mintram

Here I am! I'm Beth, Publicity Officer, handing out flyers to passers-by

So many people refused to take flyers with the excuse they can't sew - but remember, the Craft and Sewing Society has so much more on offer than homesewing. We try all kinds of crafts including the traditional knitting and crochet, along with the more unusual like jewellery making, pottery and glass painting!

We hope you enjoyed Serendipity as much as we did, and can't wait to see all our members, new and returning, at our taster session on Tuesday!

There will be a pick up from Bar Uno on Friddoedd Site at 6:55pm for those unsure how to get to the Student Union where our meetings are held, and please do try and remember to bring a jam jar as we will be using them to make tealight holders as part of our workshop.

Thank you so much for signing up to be part of our society, and see you all soon!

Welcome to Bangor!

To all of Bangor's Freshers this year - welcome! And to all returning students, welcome back!

It's time to start another year at Bangor, and like always the year is being got off to a good start by Freshers Week! A traditional part of this week-long welcome to the city is Serendipity, where the clubs and societies of the university get together to show off what they're about and attract new members.

This year, Serendipity will be held at Main Arts on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th September, beginning at 10am and running all throughout the day! Naturally, the Bangor Craft and Sewing Society want to be in on the action. You'll find us on our stand in the marquee outside Main Arts, where you can pick up a flyer with information about our meetings and upcoming workshops, and collect a couple of goodies we've made for the occasion!

So, whether you're a Fresher or not, we wish everyone the best of luck settling into a new year at Bangor, and look forward to meeting you at the society's upcoming workshops!
